Hockeys Back..

Hockey is back, it was only a matter of time before the owners and the players came to a respective agreement. It was sad to watch a game I’ve become so attached to over the course of my life take on so much scrutiny. I remember the days when it was very simple for a middle class family to go and enjoy a game. They could actually see the puck because there wasn’t all the advertising on the ice and the boards. But just like anything , expansion in inevitable. Money has taken over a game which used to be so pure. The players in my mind are getting paid tremendously well, to do what they love. Although positions on teams and injuries are always looming in the players mind, more emphasis needs to be put on the fans and the kids. It’s the kids that look up to the pro athletes as role models. I’m fully aware that the business side of the game brings in so much revenue now that the players have their rights to the dividends. I was blessed to watch hockey as a kid in an era when Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux just to name a few would handle themselves with such integrity and grace. I can’t and won’t take anything away from the players because now they have been conditioned all through the ranks that the business side of the game is just as important. With  48 game schedule on the horizon, I hope the fans get what they deserve . In no time the lockout will be a memory and life will skate on for the players that have to be happy to be getting paid to do what they love. Seeing some of the actual prunes of the game come back would be a blessing, but it looks like those days are gone.

Focus Towards Desires

Inspired by my fifth birthday and the movie Kingpin I went bowling last night! Just kidding!! Although I did go bowling last night with some awesome people and the experience was great. As much fun as it was I couldn’t help but being a little on the competitive side, I guess it’s programmed into my nature. It’s funny because with anything in life when you focus on what’s in front of you, whatever it is. Visualization in attainment of whatever it is that your aiming for and the power of focus is always responsible for your success. The practices go for anything in life. Sports, business, friendships, knitting..you get my drift. Look at any pro golfer and see the intense focus on their faces before a putt. Pro golfers will tell you  that 90 percent of the game is played between their ears. Or a basketball player at the free throw line. Everything in life comes down to focus and desire. And the intensity towards that in which you pinpoint your focus will determine the amount of success we as individuals or corporate alliances have. Everything is relative in proportion to what we focus on.

PRO ATHLETES ARE REAL PEOPLE

I awoke this morning to see that my favorite hockey player Sidney Crosby was back skating with his respective team the Pittsburgh Penguins. His teammates all taped a “C” on their practice jerseys to honor their respected captain and show support in his attempt to comeback after this setback that has been a major test to his will. It just goes to show that no matter how big of celebrity or how much fame, these people are built from the same stuff we are and are only human. It was a love and desire for the game he loves so much that got Sidney there in the first place. He’s such a class guy off the ice and has shown such poise and determination on wanting to comeback. But his health comes number one. The game sure misses it’s biggest star and I hope he’s back soon.

Another hot topic is all this talk about Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow and how religious he is. It’s funny how people that have nothing better to talk about have to pick on someone who’s taking his team to great heights through his willingness to be the best he can. So what if he’s Mr. religious. He’s a rarity these days in the NFL where a lot of the league is fuelled by big egos. He’s as real as they come. And the fact he believes that there’s a power greater than what we see in the tangible world, well good on him that he can draw strength from that and get the backing of not only his teammates but the city of Denver.

At the end of the day it’s all opinions from people and media that are making jokes mostly out of jealousy because he’s winning. I hope Tim and the Broncs win it all, and I’m not even a big football fan. Everyone is entitled to beliefs in religion and whatever else they choose, and this guy is just living his life through integrity playing his heart out.
