DAY 1 THE BRIEFING

February 8th was a special day for a few reasons for myself and the world at large. Number one in my heart it was my mothers birthday. Number two was the blessing to be alive and well, given the opportunity to be of service to others that need help in the world. Last night I was introduced to all the people I will be sharing the journey of traversing 545 km’s across Vietnam and Cambodia for the next 12 days. I was so impressed with the people I met, and my new friend and roommate Tom Watson who works for Projects Futures in conjunction with the Somaly Mam foundation. I learned the about the personal reasons why each individual made the choice to put their life on hold, sacrifice part of themselves for the greater good of humanity and ride for this powerful cause (human trafficking and sex slavery.) My reason is simple, it’s all about the kids period! So i’m here, present and willing to not only be of support to raise awareness, but to also enjoy an experience that will be life transforming and emotionally fulfilling. An open heart and mind is all that is needed when embarking on such a mission. I could feel the love from each individual and their sincere desire to be helpful. The group has raised a lot of money for this cause that I was so very blessed to see in action last year what can happen when people work together as a unit in action helping to provide the means for a better life for young girls who wouldn’t have much of a chance. This is going to be one heck of a ride with many unexpected surprises along the way. It will be a very special feeling to see how the group grows together over the course of the journey as well, as bonds were already being formed over dinner. The group is positive, happy, loving and courageous and all in for the cause. Nothing but good can come out of these special days ahead. Tomorrow we hop on the bikes and ride 90km’s. I can’t wait!
